animals live in Carara. Among the most interesting ones are: Peccary, Giant

sloth, Tayra, White tailed deer and the Four-eyed opossum.
One of the most endangered species of birds, the Scarlet
macaw, is found
here. Because of the loss of its habitat and the illegal hunting for its
beautiful feathers. Other species of birds are: Violaceous trogon, Great
curassow, Hummingbirds, Toucans and Toucanets, Laughing falcon and the Boat
billed heron. Some of these species are also endangered. Water birds, Egrets and
Herons, are frequently seen along the riversides and sand banks. It is believed
that more than 70% of all mammal species native to the country are found within
this park, including white tailed deer, collared pecarries, coaties, armadillos,
sloths, monkeys, pumas, margay, ocelot, kinkajous, tayra and much more. Also in
the area, large crocodiles are seen daily in the river....
